Yngve Edward Soderberg (1896 - 1971)
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Yngve Edward Soderberg was an American watercolorist, etcher, and printmaker. He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York. He was a WPA muralist whose work can be seen at the U. S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut and at the U. S. Post Office in Morrisville, Pennsylvania. He lived and worked in Mystic, Connecticut and taught at the New London High School. He is best known for his nautical paintings and prints, as well as for winter scenes and vernacular landscapes. He is the author of Drawing Boats and Ships, a popular instructional book which has been reprinted several times. Soderberg belonged to leading etchers' societies, and exhibited at galleries in the eastern states. His work resides in the collections of numerous museums and at the Smithsonian Institution. He died at Mystic, Connecticut.
