Hemilce Saforcada (1912 - 2004)
Painter and printmaker Hemilce Saforcada was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and studied at the Ernesto de la Cárcova School of Fine Arts there. She was the wife of artist Rodolfo Castagna. Her portraits are nuanced and spiritually expressive. In the United States, Saforcada's work is held in collections including the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts, the Library of Congress, and the New York Public Library. Throughout her career, she stood at the front rank of Argentine artists, and won numerous prizes and awards.
