Agnes Miller Parker (1885 - 1980)
Wood engraver, painter, and book illustrator Agnes Miller Parker was born in Ayrshire, UK. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art and subsequently taught there before her marriage and the couple’s subsequent move to London in 1920. For the next eight years she taught in London schools at Gerards Cross and Clapham while studying wood engraving with Gertrude Hermes. In 1930, she and her husband moved to Wales and established the Gregynog press.
Parker was best known for her brilliantly conceived and brilliantly executed wood engravings, most of them having to do with the natural world, most of them showcased in the beautiful books produced by Gregynog Press, Golden Cockerel Press, Victor Gollancz, and Limited Editions Club collaborators. Agnes Miller Parker died at Greenock, UK.
