Hendrik Kruseman van Elten (1829 - 1904)
Landscape painter and etcher Hendrik Dirk Kruseman van Elten was born in Holland, studied art in Haarlem with Lieste, followed by additional instruction in Brussels and Amsterdam and emigrated to the United States in 1865. He was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1871, attaining Academician status in 1883; a founding member of the New York Etching Club in 1877; and a full member of the British Society of Painter-Etchers. Best known for his river landscapes, his work is held by the Rijksmuseum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art among others. In 1897 he returned to Europe and died at Paris.
