Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Helen Gotlib studied at the University of Michigan School of Art and Design and Kyoto Seika University. She is primarily a printmaker, specializing in etchings depicting the natural world. Gotlib lives and works in her western Michigan studio.
