Eugene E. Loving (1908 - 1971)
The etcher Eugene Loving appears to have materialized out of thin air; little or no information is available about him until his appearance in New Orleans during the Great Depression. His body of work consists of etchings of New Orleans in general and of the French Quarter in particular. The work is masterful if somewhat sterile, since his streetscapes lack the leavening presence of human activity. He was an active member of the New Orleans Etching Club, and is likely to have died in that city, though we would like to receive any further information that you may be able to share.
