Portrait of Joseph Pennell
Drypoint and aquatint, ca. 1925; edition not stated. Image size 4-7/8” x 6-7/8”; sheet size 7½” x 10”. Signed in pencil by both Pennell and Ziegler in the lower margin and inscribed “To Mabel Fairfax Smith from H. J. Z. aboard 20th Century (Limited) from Chicago to NYC.” Mabel Fairfax Smith Karl was a noted printmaker. Overall good condition, with rippling induced by the depth of the plate impression and some minor staining in the lower extremity of the sheet, but an interesting and amusing triple association piece.
