Erich Brauer (1929 - )
Born in Vienna, Brauer is a painter, printmaker and illustrator, among other vocations. His post-war artistic training in Vienna was supervised by Albert Paris von Gütersloh, who promoted Brauer's work as a member of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism, which had arisen in the mid-1950s among surrealist artists including Brauer, Ernst Fuchs, Rudolf Hausner, and others. The combination of meticulous craftsmanship and surrealism in his work gained international attention, leading to important one-man shows in the United States in the early 1980s.
