We have used the latin phrase for unknown artist as a catch-all for the unidentified prints and photographs that have landed in our inventory that we like but cannot identify.
An artist's signature may be missing or illegible if present. Compelling photographs were created by talented photojournalists whose identity was lost in the torrent of images that were a staple of journalism from the late Nineteenth Century onward. Just as likely, we may be sufficiently unfamiliar with the work of a well-known artist whose style may be well known and recognizable to others. Whatever the case, we think that these works deserve recognition. We hope that you will agree - perhaps strongly enough to want one or another of them for your own collection.
